Pathways 2007 ~ Day One ~ Set Up

Yes we have finally reached that point, Pathways 2007 will be starting in a few days. Today was the start of set up. We were given a two hour period to deliver and unpack our work. The case with the main delivery was quite heavy so caught a taxi. There was a lot of sercurity in London, first due to the car bombs found yesterday but also there was to be a Gay Pide march too .

My work has started by the archway into the far display area, but this could have moved before I return tomorrow. We each had to lay out our work so that the key pieces were clearing marked and with their sketch books. Talked Kay and Bev quick over the pieces then made a quick exit. There is a smaller number of students so I hope this means we will have more space. Although I guess first thing we will be touching up the walls with whote paint. Tomorrow we will start to hang the work. DH has helped me pack a bag for tomorrow with hammers, staple guns, glue etc etc to take with me. Plus will take in the box with the cards for the sales table. The train goes at 7:20 tomorrow, another lay in for me.

Low points of the day
... handle on suitcase broke =(
... it rained on the way back to Waterloo =(
... need to get ridof this cold =(
... sorry to much to carry to take the camera today =(

Lost Highway !

bon_j

This afternoon DH and I will be off to London to the Millenium Dome - which opens tonight as the O2 Arena with Bon Jovi playing the first night !!! Oh yey and we have tickets ..... YEY !!!! The latest album Lost Highway just came out !

Saturday DH and I were busy. First into Petersfield for a little shopping and eye tests. Then it RAINED !!! Yek ! As the sky had cleared up we had left our rain macs in the car... OK I know ... but normally we would have waited it out in WHSmiths but we had 1min until our eye appointment. Test went well, we ordered our new glasses and finally I have a pair of sunglasses ordered !!! Yes ... or are they ;)
Keeping our fingers crossed that the glasses arrive by next weekend. PLan is to head to London Staurday to drop off C^G work (see more below) then catch train to Petersfield meet DH and pick up glasses =)
Saturday afternoon/evening headed over to a friend's 50th Birthday party. Did not stay too late as today is going to be manic. If we have our train times right - we should get back here around midnight .... then I'll be back on the train at 6am heading off to work ! Sounds mad and normally I would have taken Monday off - as DH has - but the guy who would normally cover me is on holiday ! Never mind !

Meanwhile in the world of C&G textiles , I think I am there.
Everything that can be done is done. The bags are packed so that next Saturday I will be dragging it all to London. Although Saturday is only to drop off the work - I'll also take the time to have a look round the OPUS graduate exhibition which will be on.
Then back for Sun/Mon for set up and internal assessment, before the gallery opens on the Tuesday. Eeekk been selected as one of the students the external virifier wants to speak with - so that will be Thursday.

Happy Birthday Mimm

This weekend DH and I have been to my sister's 50th Birthday Bash. She held a great party round her house including an Elvis entertainer who was brilliant !

BUT this was finally the time to reveal the gift I have been spending months making for her, a fabric book of her life. See the slide show below for pictures.

Mean while on the C&G front I am completing a few last minute details so that I am ready for the first week of July.

The Lily is FINISHED !

FULL WORK COMPLETE The back FINISHED

Yes , I have finished all the stitching on the Lily hanging, see pictures above (Click on them to see bigger versions). BUT now trying to work out how to hang it. Don't like the idea of tabs and have already tried stringing to a fabric wrapped bar which does not quite work. I may go for added small rings to the back an inch or two down, so that the hanging can sit on nails but appear to float. Problem with that is I was planning to do the same for the Rose hanging too. I guess nothing wrong with doing the same method twice. Below is a slide show of the hanging being built up. As I was only using black bobbin thread a negative image grew at the same time, so started to take pictures of the back. I did wonder if it should be finished so you could see both sides.

See the full Lily Hanging albumn

There has been a two week delay as last weekend went to stay with my Dad. Mum had been taken to hospital on the Wednesday with an infection. In the end she was in 8 days but during that time my sisters and I took turns to support Dad, visit Mum and ensure everything that was needed got done. Mum is home now, but with a pile of antibiotics to take and we are awaiting a follow up appointment to see if they have tracked down the problem. It could be a bone infection where she had a replacement hip last year. If so it mmight have to swapped out.

On a better note, next weekend off to my sister's 50th birthday party =)

Now I am trying to get all the rest of my City and Guilds work completed ready for 30th June, when I have to deliver everything to London. It mostly little things to be done like creating labels for the sketch books for the main pieces so they are clearly labeled. I plan to make a few cards for the sales table (help to cover some of the hanging costs) but not sure if I should look to create close up images on each main piece or take photo of the whole thing !??? I am Thinking that close up would be better , which would you guys perfer to have available at a gallery.
