Fishy Zentangles

Been totally inspired the last week or two with creating books of zentangles. In fact tunnel books. It started when I saw that a zentangle book for the tunnel book exchange I am in, is coming my way soon (ok about two months) but wanted to practice.

So started on a octopus and was a little hooked. As you'll see lots of fish swimming around now.

Artful note books

Well there I was at work looking at one of my Artful Dwellings pieces and I wondered if the largest house would make a note book cover.  Yes it can, as you'll see in the image below. Still need to find a better binding. Any ideas ?
Also , completed another artful dwelling set this time I just add two ties to each side. There is a close up below as well as an image of the whole thing.

Since Jan 1st I have been working on a stitched piece called the tree of life. Hubby bought it for me last year. The overall design is quite 1910 feeling. Well this week completed the central area and now on to the ladies on the side.

Moist and Misty Morning

The frost has arrived. See the picture below taken from the kichen today.

Following a comment from a friend about cutting fabric with the big shot, I got to thinking about making the Artful Dwellings in fabric. Wow, this came well. I cut out pellet vilyn to give strength in the center. The back has black felt.

First stitching round the outside of each house with a zigzag that goes over the edge. This held the three layers together before I started to add embellishments. Having fabric means the houses could be slip stitched together. Without any additional support the row stands. Quite pleased how these came out.

Spot our visitor

Yes, look closely at the photo can you spot out unwelcome visitor.

The weekend was quiet , I made a few birthday cards which will remain hidden for now, stitched on my tree of life pattern and watched Gilmour Girls. One of my Yule gifts was a copy of series 2.

Calender Girl

Joining in the calender challenge for 2012. Each month you create an art calender. Each square can hold words, pictures, stamped images or what ever works for you.
It took me a while to get the first one together but as a first attempt not bad.
I guess it is now time to start to collect interesting papers for the squares. Although I spotted an idea in an old copy of Studio Arts which I may try.
The challenge is being held on Kate's site so head over there to see everyone else's work. The Kathryn Wheel: 2012 - Bring it on!

My friend Francoise joined first, see her site papillon sur la branche

Return to the Centre of the Earth : part 3

Well here is the third side of the book. It was pointed out that each of the following 9 artists are expecting to work on facing sides and not a back and front. So now the book is set up right.

This is also great chance to start making strange devices for the young explorer to hold. LOL I called it a Sonic Transducer, which I think comes from Rocky Horror. Lots of steam punk options here.

This time I dived into my box of grunge board per-cuts. So a few edit cuts to a skull and cross bones, butterfly wing and the body from the manic looking chick ... We have another fantastic creature.
