JULIA CAPRARA
?? - 2008

Not sure of the details but Dale has posted a note that Julia passed away last Wednesday. Really sad news for her familly and for Textile Art community. My thoughts are with Alex. Julia headed up OPUS where I studied for my City and Guilds. I enjoyed a number of art courses with her.

Week of Art
In fact all from belated birthday gifts. Mum had ordered this book for me which arrived this week. Just started to read it =)
Also a birthday parcel arrived from the States from C&K !! Inside was this hand painted canvas. Yesterday went shopping for the wools... So now I just need some time.

Meanwhile I am working on Yuletude orniments to give as gifts. On the 6th right now, but no photos to share until they are all sent out !

ALLY PALLY 2008
Met with three friends for a day out at Ally Pally yesterday. We really enjoyed ourselves and managed to shop dispite the organisors! See Below !!!

My stash for the day
  • Two books of Art Nouveau cross stitch (2 for £10)
  • A few kits :Mill Hill Xmas kit. Bought from Nimble Thimble so treated myself to the frame too
  • Sweet Heart - LOVE .... on sale
  • Northern Pine Designs - Abalone
    The central shell attracted me.
  • Lots of ribbons - some printed and some varigated silk.
  • Ribbon for this year's tree Ornies... selected some american folk art style
  • Charms for tree Ornies
  • A select of WDW and beads for the tree Ornies- my friend had arrived at mine on Friday with the latest JCS ornie issue for me.
  • A few flower buttons
  • Textile Art book/mag - Thr3fold
  • Magnet with bee on for me and one for a lady at work who has just started stitching.
  • A Xmas pressy for my sister ... not shown in photos
  • AND a few needles....

C & I caught the train to London and started the morning off with coffee and bacon s/w in the cafe by the bus stop at Wood Green. Then joined two more friends waiting for the doors to open at 10am.

There were lots more book stands this year, lots of clothing, jewelry stands selling necklaces to finish but not beeds as such, handbags and others stuff..

What there was not enough of where THREADS, FABRIC ,CHARTS !!!! Most years I will collect 99% of the stash I need for the JCS ornies from AP, but not this year.... My DMC, Crescent colours and some WDW were all ordered of Sew&So this morning.

There were LESS people there. By the time it was 12 noon we had finished walking round and shopping in the main hall.

Lunch was arranged by Ct and Z.... table cloths, wine glasses and the wine , finger rolls, nibbles and fruit all outside in the sunshine !! So relaxing and fun!!

For the afternoon we had more time then most years to wander round the other rooms, look at the exhibitions and were still outside for the end of day catch up with everyone by 3:30 !!!

We did overhear , well you could not miss it, the lady running the Nimble Thimble say they would not be signing up for 2009 as the organisors had price them out. As we all felt that Saturday was not as busy as other years. It was also telling at the end of the day at how little people were carrying away in bags !!!

C and I had a good evening. Hubby met us off the train as he had booked a table at our local italian. Completely walking distances so we could all enjoy good food and a very good bottle of wine !!!
