Holiday in Germany

Just back after spending 10 days in Germany =)
The first four days we were watching the World Rally - Round 10. As you can see from the two photos below, we had great weather.

This is Solberg driving past a vine yard. Most of the action goes past vines. My fav. driver.
This is the 'OOOA' car , which checks the track is OK before the race starts, going though a town. Each day there are 6 or 8 stages driven on closed public and private roads.
Sebastine Loeb won AGAIN !! But at least Solberg finished this year.

The rest of the week we had time to explore the Mosel Valley. We were based in Trier. The first day we walked into the town for a look round. As the Rally is always held near Trier we know the town quite well. DH wanted a chance to visit the two model train shops. A successful shopping for him (although later in the week we found another shop in a small village where he picked up another bargan). I had bought a couple of cross stitch kits mostly for the bell pull hanging hardware than the charts and a number of magazines. We again found 'Maxi' a store I have brought clothes from before. Although I was not in the mood DH insisted we go in and I ended up buying a new pair of jeans and a top !!! =)

Spent a couple of days driving the Mosel Wine Road, which follows the course of the Mosel river. We stopped quite often to look at the view, take photos and sometimes have a coffee. This year we managed to buy six bottle of wine from a local vintner. Before leaving we also had a quick shop at the supermarket to pickup a few things you can not buy in the UK.... Like a crate or two of BitBerg.... pickles and wusrt. DH also took me back into Trier town center to 'Maxi' to buy a second pair of the jeans as I had spent the week telling him how comfy they are (Well they are) and ended up with two new tops. I think the owner was at first a little confused why I wanted to buy the same pair. The weather during the week was mostly good =)

The slide show below gives you a little taste of the area.

Been back a day or so , apart from fighting with the piles of washing (now mostly done) and generally putting everything away, I have had a creative moment on Sunday afternoon. One of my pairs of jeans died while we were in Germany (thanks goodness I had a new pair) but the dead pair I had embroidered the legs so I did not want to loose the work. So had an idea to turn them into a small bag !! Added one of the back pockets too. Pictures below =) I may now added additional embroidery or/and beads.

Liss Show 2007

Well this weekend was the Liss Village Show. The slide show below shows you the entries and results for the craft section. Although for the knitting section I only took a picture of my piece !?!?!

How did I do ??
Three second places , not bad. The cup went to Mrs M who also entered every section and obtained three first places.

Fingers crossed that next year they will finally get round to asking for help in selecting the subjects. The Embroiderers Group have a VERY poor showing each year. This time
there was three of us ... Generally there seems to be a lack of interest in the subjects on offer. To create enough entries you need a little more notice as many of us do not have the right items just sitting around.

Rest the weekend has been spent getting ready for the holiday. Packing suitcases, collecting things together.

I did manage to finish my second sleeve on the cardigan. Now just need tomake it up =)

Art Dolls

This is my first Dotee doll ,the pattern comes from Dot who posted her art dolls on her blog. follow this link to see the tutorial and try for yourself.

I went for working on both the front and the back. Adding words to the back is a small nod to Opus degree student (see side bar) who creates sock monkeys with words on them.

What else have I been doing ??

I have started a doll from Stitch but stuck on the hands. Had lots of advice but so far nothing is working. So put her to one side until we come back from Germany.

I am now on my final sleeve for the cardigan ... YEY !! First sleeve knitted upquite fast, so I hope t0 have the second done this weekend. May be I can take it away with me ... =)

The Weekend has gone with Crash so far !!

Another week goes by and my art work get left behind. I did go to see the new Harry Potter film, which was very good=) and plan to see a few more based on the trailers!! Although that evening on the way home on the train engineering works started earily and we were bused most of the way home....

During the week I have been working to finish off a knitted cardigan I started a year ago. Well for me getting one item knitted in a year is quite a miricle...lol... the last thing I knitted was a jumper for DH which took 5 years !!! BUT I have not finished - working on the first sleeve.

I have dug out the fabric to make an art doll using the pattern in Issue 48 of Stitch. I thought I had canx my subscription. Glad I had not. So fingers crossed I will have time to cut out and make today=)

Friday - a great package arrived, all the details for our holiday ... PANIC ... we go on Wed 15th and we have done NOTHING to prepare ourselves. So yesterday while we were shopping in Petersfield we bought some Euros from the Posy Office. Did we get enough ?? No idea we just guessed at what we might want !?!?! At some point in the next few days we need to buy a new suitcase, sort out travel arrangements etc etc Guess we'll be doing a little planning today ..

We are keeping a close eye on the news. An out break of Foot & Mouth has been found near Guildford on a farm on DH's rights of way patch. He was on the phone to his boss yesterday morning and we hope this does not impact our holiday. The government so far have said that the country side is still open, but have banned movement of all cattle/sheep , plus the local officers have closed the footpaths by the farm. DH and his team will be in 8am Monday for a team meeting and to start to field phone calls from worried farmers and members of the public. SO a busy week for DH , he'll be ready for his holiday !

Yesterday was DH's Open Shed evening. Which meant we spend the day getting ready for it. He had a BBQ going and then the guys spent the evening in the shed running trains while the ladies chatted. It all went very well. My first summer pudding went down well and everyone liked that fact that we try to use as much home grown veg in the salad. The weather this weekend is perfect for an evening meal outside =) We had just seen our guests off just before midnight and had started to do a little clearing in the kitchen and garden when there was a HUGE bang ... At first I thought it was DH's shed as it holds petrol for the mower as well as the electrics for his trains.... Ran out the back , he was running to me shouting it was something out the front ....
A driver had hit a stationary car which parks opposite. Well as you can see from the photo he hit it was quite a whack... His car was not driveable. He used DH's phone to call his Dad to collect his partner and baby , then called the police. As the lady from the house was not up and I could not raise her we took all the details he had on him. I was a little concerned that the driver might try to leave and I wonder if his car had not been damaged if he would have done.
Just before we went to bed we noticed the lady in her garden and popped over to speak with her ... It was almost 12:30 by now, she had woken up but not by the noise of the crush. The car is a right off , which is a shame as she is an elderly lady and this is her main means of transport.
This morning I have a pile of washing up - although the dish washer is doing that and lots of clothes to wash which is normal.
