Creating a Niche

Spent time this weekend creating a niche book project. Saw the basic idea in a magazine and thought I would put a more grunge twist to it.

First stop was the second hand book store in town. They have an outside area where the books are 3 for a £1. Really cool as they always have a good supply of books suitable for alteration !!

I started with a copy of "What Katie did Next" ... I remember reading a copy of that as a child. This copy was looking MUCH worse for wear. The pictures below give you a few different angles. The bottle came in the pack which Tim gave out at the Artsy Craft course. Found I had a nib which already said Journal on it and a dictionary page with Breathless on it , perfect !! The original used ribbon to hold the book shut, but I liked the look of the grunge paper hinge held on with glue and round head nails.

I think it has comeout really well... Next time I would make a larger hole, although this does fit the bottle. I am thinking about making two more as Mother's Day gifts... Will need to add flowers in the niche I guess. Well I can feel an afternoon of grunge paper tattered flowers are needed to be created !! Perhaps tumbling out the niche mixed with a few purls... Wonder what our Mother's will make of that !?!?!

Now I do wonder if the book is calling out for a set of feet !?!? The nails would go into the cover I guess ... coz the edge of the paper would not give enough support ... errmmm , well that is something to do on Sunday then !!

Hello Zoƫ,

did you abuse this book or did it look like this!?!

It's a nice project to do and to look at.
i like the distressed outside, the fact you can still see some of the pages, the filled bottle with the pen on it and the grungeboard hinge with the two white stains on the right.

We can do this in London maybe together with the tagbook I'll be making ? I guess we can find such glassbottle at the craftshow...

greetings from belgium
