Bank Holiday Weekend - C&G work part1
I have started to make samples for the Inuit country resource book. The Inuit sewstress will use one of 3 main traditional stitches.
* Running stitch
* Over cast
* Water proof
I'll take some photos of these to share. I made a set of samples using commerically available leather pieces.
A friend D then brought me two small piece from a reindeer skin. This is a great oppertunity to work samples with real fur... The picture below the piece are still in a plastic bag. The fur molts as soon as you open the bag and fine white hairs go everywhere. It is amazing how large the piece on the right looks, but of the reverse as in the one of the left how little leather material there really is.
A new resource arrived during the week. Rubbing plates. The package has six different leaf plates. You can just see the six design on the top of the packet.
Using a couple of shiva sticks in gold and red I made a couple of quick samples on to calico.
Wow ... now all kinds of ideas are forming =)

Zoe - I went ot Rainbow Silks yesterday and bought this exact same pack of leaf rubbing plates - I had a quick practise with paper and wax crayons. I'll be very interested to see what you do with them - keep us posted.
